Maverick’s game six is a lose-lose for me
I am a gigantic Dallas Mavericks fan who is considering not watching tonight's game for one simple reason: I can not possibly feel any joy from the experience. This is a series where the Mavericks have thus far gone up 2-0 only to lose the following 3 to now be down 2-3. Watching the two possible outcomes (a Mavericks win or a Mavericks loss) can do little for me in terms of bringing joy to my life and will most likely only have net negative effect on my general temperament.
The negative effect of a Mavericks loss is obvious. I will lament the fact that Mavericks blew what is a rare opportunity to win an NBA championship. Especially when they were up 2-0.
The negative effect of a Mavericks win is more subtle, but still present. While a victory is nice, per se, it will only even the series at 3-3 and force a game seven. My mind set then will probably be the Mavericks have done just enough to keep from blowing it for at least one more game. This will stir up the requisite reflection of the Mavericks 3 prior losses in the series and re-release all the negative thoughts and thus, emotions associated with them. A painful retelling of Josh Howard's "Chris Webbering" in game 5 with his timeout miscue will inevitably seep its way into my consciousness again, for example.
As you can see, while I can enjoy the momentary emotional highs during the play of the game itself, the only outcome possible at the very end is one of sadness.
